Satu hal yang membuat Descartes sangat terkenal adalah bagaimana dia menciptakan satu metode yang betul-betul baru didalam berfilsafat yang kemudian dia beri nama metode keraguan atau kalau dalam bahasa aslinya dikatakan sebagai Le Doubte Methodique. Berdasarkan metode ini, berfilsafat menurut Descartes adalah membuat pertanyaan metafisis untuk kemudian menemukan jawabannya dengan sebuah fundamen yang pasti, sebagaimana pastinya jawaban didalam matematika.

Keraguan sendiri adalah keadaan seimbang antara penegasan (affirmasi) dan pengingkaran (negasi). Dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, keraguan lebih sering ditemui saat kita akan mengambil sebuah keputusan. Walaupun praktik yang dilakukan filsuf dengan kita berbeda namun pengambilan keputusan itu pada dasarnya berada pada level yang sama sebagai suatu jalan dalam menemukan kebenaran-kebenaran sebuah putusan.

Meragukan sesuatu adalah berpikir tentang sesuatu, dengan demikian bisa dikatakan bahwa kepastian akan eksistensi kita bisa dicapai dengan berpikir. Descartes kemudian mengatakan cogito ergo sum atau kalau dalam bahasa aslinya dikatakan Je pense donc je suis yang artinya adalah aku berpikir maka aku ada.

Dengan metode keraguan ini, Descartes ingin mengokohkan kepastian akan kebenaran, yaitu “cogito”  atau kesadaran diri. Cogito adalah sebuah kebenaran dan kepastian yang sudah tidak tergoyahkan lagi karena dipahami sebagai hal yang sudah jelas dan terpilah-pilah ( claire et distincte).

Metode Keraguan (Skeptisisme) berawal dari pemikiran bahwa untuk menemukan basis yang kuat bagi filsafat, ia meragukan (skeptis) terlebih dulu terhadap segala seuatu yang dapat diragukan. Mula-mula ia meragukan semua yang dapat diindera, obyek yang sebenarnya tidak mungkin diragukan. Inilah langkah pertama metode skeptis terebut. Dia meragukan adanya badannya sendiri, keraguan itu menjadi mungkin karena pada pengalaman mimpi, halusinasi, ilusi, dan juga pada pengalaman dengan roh halus ada yang sebenarnya tidak jelas. Di dalam mimpi seolah-olah seseorang mengalami sesuatu yang sungguh-sungguh terjadi, persis seperti tidak mimpi. Jika orang ragu terhadap segala sesuatu, maka dalam keragu-raguan itu jelas ia ada sedang berfikir. Sebab yang sedang berfkir itu tentu ada dan jelas terang benderang “Corgito Ergo Sum” (saya berfikir, maka jelaslah saya ada).

Metode keraguan Descartes bukanlah tujuannya. Tujuan metode ini bukanlah untuk mempertahankan keraguan, sebaliknya metode ini bergerak dari keraguan menuju kepastian. Keraguan Descartes hanya digunakan untuk menjelaskan perbedaan sesuatu yang dapat diragukan dari sesuatu yang tidak dapat diragukan.

Lebih lanjut descartes mengatakan bahwa sumber kebenaran ialah rasio. Hanya rasio sajalah yang dapat membawa seseorang kepada kebenaran, yang benar hanyalah tindakan akal yang terang benderang yang disebutnya Ideas, Claires at Distinctes (pemikiran yang terang benderang dan terpilah-pilah). Idea terang benderang ini pemberian Tuhan sebelum dlahirkan Idea innatal = ide bawaan).

Descartes mengembangkan metode filsafat keraguan ini dengan tahap-tahap rinci yang bisa kita lewati. Oleh karena itu, metode yang dikembangkan oleh Descartes ini biasa disebut juga sebagai skeptik-metodik, artinya keraguan yang didasarkan atas suatu metode sistematis untuk sampai pada kebenaran.

Metode itu dimulai melalui beberapa tahapan, diantaranya:

1.    mulai meragukan segala sesuatu yang selama ini diterima sebagai suatu kebenaran;
2.    mengklasifikasikan persoalan dari hal yang sederhana hingga hal yang rumit;
3.    melakukan pemecahan masalah dari hal yang rumit hingga hal yang paling rumit; dan
4.    memeriksa kembali secara menyeluruh barangkali masih ada hal-hal yang masih tersisa atau terabaikan.

Moyo (older spelling Mojo) is an island in Indonesia's West Nusa Tenggara province. It is off the north coast Sumbawa Island, and has an area of 349 km2. It is at the mouth of Saleh Bay, has a nature reserve with wild oxen, deer, wild boars and a great variety bird species. Visits are best made during the dry season from June through August. A few kilometers of the north coast of Sumbawa, the national park island of Moyo Island is probably the most rewarding destination in Sumbawa, surrounded by beautiful coral reefs and home to wild pig, monitor lizards, 21 species of bat, huge herds of native deer and hordes of crab-eating macaques. The best time to visit is in June and July, though the seas are clear and quiet from April. There are basic private rooms at the PHPA post at Tanjung Pasir on the south coast, where most boats from the mainland arrive. Renting a fishing boat from Tanjung Pasir and going fifteen minutes east to Stama reeft is very rewarding, with lots of sharks and turtles. There's nowhere on Moyo to rent masks and snorkels so bring our own; fins are advisable due to the strong currents.

To get to Moyo, take a bemo from beside Seketang Market in Sumbawa Besar to Air Bari , a small port settlement to the northeast. From Air Bari, we can charter a boat to Moyo. 

 

Most of Moyo is a nature reserve called Moyo Island Hunting Park covering 22,537.90 ha (Decree of Minister of Forestry Number: 308/Kpts-II/1986 dated 29 September 1986)[citation needed], and is inhabited by macaques, wild cattle, wild pigs, barking deer, deer (Cervus timorensis) and several varieties of birds. The island rises 648m, and its centre is composed mainly of savannah and some strands of forest. The Marine Park of Moyo Island occupies the southern island. These two natural reserves are managed by an Office of Natural Conservation of West Nusa Tenggara, as a Technical Operation Unit of Directorate General of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation-Ministry of Forestry.

Moyo Island offers a resort called Amanwana Resort, which provides overnight facilities using the tent. It is not a regular tent. This is luxurious tent equipped with sitting room to enjoy the view, king-size bed, writing desk, large bathrooms and air conditioning.
